Sea buckthorn aka "siberian pineapple" or Hippophae rhamnoides as it is known scientifically, has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Ancient records indicate that the sea buckthorn was used to promote energy and enhancing the immune system as well as liver function. Records also indicate sea buckthorn being used to treat skin diseases.
Sea buckthorn berries are yellow-orange in color and are a rich source of antioxidant compounds such as vitamins A, C and E, carotenoids, flavonoids and phytosterols. Like the gac fruit, which provides a powerful source of natural, nutritional fatty acids, so too does the sea buckthorn. These nutritive fatty acids help to facilitate optimal bioavailability of key nutrients (nutrients get to the cellular level where they can be used by the body). Additionally, healthful benefits of the sea buckthorn fruit also include the promotion of vascular health, prostate health, better digestion, wound healing and helps to protect the skin from UV damage.
